Tory Lanez, the Toronto rapper convicted for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, has had his sentencing delayed again as he prepares a motion for a new trial.
During a brief hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, L.A. County Superior Court Judge David Herriford granted the delay and scheduled the sentencing for April 10. According to legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, the judge also lifted a gag order that prevented Lanez from speaking publicly about the case or Megan.
Lanez’s new lawyer, David Kenner, requested the delay to prepare a motion for a new trial and called the gag order “a terrible injustice.” Kenner has previously represented Snoop Dogg and Suge Knight. Prosecutors did not object to the new sentencing date.
When asked by the judge if he agreed to the delay, Lanez responded, “Yes, Your Honor.”
Lanez was found guilty in December on three counts related to the shooting, including assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He could face up to 22 years and eight months in prison and deportation to Canada.
