Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert faced backlash after performing a new song referencing Satan and his girlfriend JT of City Girls at Rolling Loud California earlier this month.
During his performance, Uzi was seen wearing a pentagram belt, which is often associated with Satanism. The rapper received criticism on social media, including Summer Walker, who called him out for promoting Satanic worship.
Responding to the backlash, Uzi clarified that the lyrics were not meant to be taken literally and that he only used Satan as a metaphor. “Not actually Satan, but just basically I make a girl do whatever I say so,” he explained while wearing a pentagram symbol on his beanie. JT did not take the lyrics too seriously, with Uzi adding, “She really didn’t think too much of it… She knows what I really mean.”
Uzi brushed off the negative attention, stating that he exercises his freedom of speech and ignores the chatter. He also affirmed that he comes from a “real religious household” and did not intend to offend anyone. When asked if he believes in Satan, he smirks, “Umm, no.”
The controversial song will be featured on Uzi’s upcoming album, Pink Tape, which is set to be released in the next two months. Despite the backlash, Uzi seems unapologetic about his lyrics and will continue to push boundaries with his music.
