Barbadian national hero and Pop star Rihanna yesterday (February 20) celebrated her 35th birthday hot on the heels of her triumphant return to the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show.
This marks her first appearance at a major event since the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, where she performed a medley of her biggest hits and received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Prior to her performance at the February 12 sporting affair, the artiste revealed that she was so immersed in career endeavours that she had forgotten entirely about her special day.
Recently, Rihanna achieved another milestone with her first Academy Awards nomination for her recent single “Lift Me Up.” The moving tribute track, dedicated to the late Chadwick Boseman, is featured in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will compete in the Best Original Song category. Co-writers Ryan Coogler, who directed the film, Tems, and producer Ludwig Goransson will also be credited alongside Rihanna.
Rihanna faces fierce competition in the Best Original Song category from pop icon Lady Gaga for her contribution to Top Gun: Maverick with “Hold My Hand” and Diane Warren’s “Applause” from Tell It Like A Woman. Warren’s 14th nomination in the category makes her a formidable opponent.
The Oscars are scheduled to take place on March 12.
