The inaugural Lost In Time Festival held over the weekend on the Lawns of Hope Gardens in Kingston was a resounding success producing several water cooler moments with its various offerings throughout the night.
However, one of the festivities’ most interesting talking points was Jamaican songbird Sevana’s cameo, which was met with much jubilation from an appreciative audience. Ironically, she had severed professional ties last year with event organiser and former campmate Protoje and his Indiggnation outfit.
Her appearance at the festival marks her first time being seen publicly on a stage since her legal woes back in October 2022, when the Westmoreland Parish Court fined her J$300,000 after pleading guilty to a charge of Death by Dangerous Driving.
The incident, which occurred in May 2021, claimed the life of Ordia Cordial, a 32-year-old woman.
Sevana, whose given name is Anna Blake, was ordered by Justice Courtney Daye to pay the fine or face two years in prison. In addition, she is banned from driving for the next two years.
Handing down the verdict, Justice Daye said he was unable to deliver a harsher sentence to the singer based on allegations of a feud with the family, among other factors.
According to the police, Sevana was driving a Honda City along the Scotts Cove main road in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, when it collided with a Honda Fit travelling in the opposite direction.
Ordia Cordiel, travelling in the Honda Fit, sustained severe injuries and was admitted to the Black River Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries on May 30.
