On New Year’s Day, Aidonia and his wife Kimberly made their first public appearance since the death of their 9-year-old son Khalif Lawrence.
The couple, grieving privately, attended Sandz. Aidonia, whose given name is Sheldon Lawrence, was billed as one of the headliners for the popular event. Dressed in his son’s favourite colour (red), he spoke about Khalif and his three-year battle with cancer. The entertainer also expressed gratitude to Solid Agency chief Sharon Burke, who assisted his family during this difficult time.
In his speech, Aidonia shared his profound appreciation for Sharon Burke, who stood by his family during Khalif’s illness. He recalled a time when he was unable to travel, and Sharon accompanied his wife and son to Miami for medical treatment. Further, into his set, Aidonia also paid respect to Tommy Lee Sparta, who is currently incarcerated.
Inviting his wife Kimberly on stage, the “Yeah Yeah” hitmaker spoke about the impact Khalif’s passing had on their family. He mentioned that many people do not know about their struggles since 2019 and how difficult it has been to see Kimberly without a smile. Aidonia expressed his love and appreciation for his wife and requested a kiss, which was met with cheers from the audience.
The couple’s appearance at Sandz marked a small step in their healing process as they continue to cope with the loss of their only child. Aidonia has been sharing memories of Khalif on Instagram, and the dancehall artist’s management team released a statement requesting privacy for the grieving family. The untimely death of Khalif Lawrence has left a profound impact on the family, now slowly learning to navigate this difficult time together.
