Popular entertainer Jahshii is determined to end the year on a high note as he continues to promote his most recent track, “God In Charge“, released three weeks ago.
Still one of the hottest tickets on the dancehall scene, the Grants Pen deejay is closing out 2022 with not only a viral hit (now at No.19 on YouTube’s Music Trending Chart and amassing over 706,000 views) but also two nominations at the upcoming Jamaica International Music Awards (JIMA).
The “Born Fighter” hitmaker has been nominated in the categories of “Best Reggae/Dancehall – New Artist” and “Song of the Year” for the hit single “Born Soldier” at the inaugural JIMA Awards ceremony set for next year.
According to the organisers, JIMA has been conceptualised as a vehicle to allow us, as a people, to own and honour our music instead of waiting for others to do so. It is critical because oftentimes when others include our artists in larger awards ceremonies, it is usually from their perspective regarding what/how they think about our music.
With JIMA, all awardees are selected based on the collective views of our diaspora. The event will showcase our music, our artists and honour the best among them. The invitation-only event will get underway on February 28, 2023, at 6 pm at the Nob Hill Hall in Sunrise, Florida.
