Amidst his ongoing immigration woes with the British authorities and the recent postponement of the inaugural Culture Splash Weekender in Croatia, dancehall superstar Popcaan continues to beat the odds, scoring yet another win for his career.
On Wednesday afternoon, the deejay was pleasantly surprised following an announcement that his 2015 collaborative hit “I Know There’s Gonna Be” (Good Times), featuring American rapper Young Thug and British producer and disc jock Jamie xx, was certified platinum in Canada.
Featured on Jamie xx’s 2015 debut album In Colour, the single secured the certification issued by Music Canada based on conflated sales and streaming data, resulting in over 80,000 units moved.
After generating over 200,000 units in sales, it was awarded silver status by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) also awarded it gold status in March of last year, indicating sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States.
In addition to the accolades above, the song has been included in an episode of Euphoria and can be found on the soundtracks of the video games series NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K17.
Since its release, the official video has amassed over 21 million views on Youtube.
