Skeng, who has recently been at the centre of much contention, has again fallen into the crosshairs of controversy. This time the artist has been officially banned from performing at public events in Guyana.
Public security minister Robeson Benn announced on Friday morning during the Guyana Police Force Community Relations Department opening.
According to Benn, “no artiste like Skeng will ever come again into this country under the signature of any person from the Ministry of Home Affairs or from the Guyana Police Force.”
However, in contrast, the minister added that this does not impede the artiste and others he considers to “promote vulgarity and lawlessness in their music” from making appearances at private clubs.
Skeng’s ban comes in the wake of an incident last month which resulted in several shots being fired inside a capacity-filled public venue during his performance forcing patrons to flee for safety.
The banning of artists by Guyana is nothing new. In 2011, Vybz Kartel music was banned from the local airwaves. In 2008, a temporary performance ban was placed on Bounty Killer and Mavado after gunshots proliferated a concert they performed at, forcing an immediate shutdown of the event.
