On Saturday morning, Guyana’s National Security Advisor Gerry Gouveia said that the developments at Skeng’s ‘Baderation’ Concert on Friday night have raised national security concerns.
During Skeng’s performance in the wee hours of Saturday morning at the National Park in Georgetown, several gunshots rang out from almost every corner of the capacity-filled venue as the deejay sang his collaborative hit “Protocol” featuring Tommy Lee Sparta.
The shooting caused mayhem inside the venue as patrons scattered to seek cover from the gunfire, which resulted in a mini-stampede. This also brought the show to an abrupt end.
“Anything that disturbs the peace and breaks the law in Guyana and affects investor confidence is a national security matter, and this certainly concerns me. The people who organized that show will have some serious questions to answer,” National Security Advisor Gerry Gouveia. – said in a statement to the media.
According to Gouveia, the police have recovered one firearm after the stampede, and all efforts are being made to locate the owner.
“I was taken aback at what I saw went on at the venue, and the president, who was on duty outside of Guyana, has also been briefed on the development.” – he added.
“I was extremely alarmed; a show like that, you would expect that people would have been screened properly to ensure that people are not taking weapons inside,” Gouveia stressed.
He continued, “To recklessly and irresponsibly fire weapons like that is just unfortunate. It is reckless and irresponsible, and the organizers of that event ought to be held responsible. They will be held responsible because they are supposed to be ensuring the safety of people going there. There is supposed to be a screening of the people going into that event, so an investigation is being launched immediately,” The National Security Advisor concluded.
