On Monday evening, Vybz Kartel’s official Instagram account delivered an audacious message to his fans, hinting at his intent for the future.
The post featured a video clip of a previous energetic performance in Trinidad and Tobago when the dancehall icon was a free man, accompanied by the caption, “COMING TO F**K UP THE PLANET AGAIN!!!! #trinibad.” The video brought back nostalgia, reminding fans of Kartel’s dynamic stage presence and his glory days as a prominent figure in the dancehall scene.
The post quickly gained traction, amassing thousands of likes and endorsements from notable figures across the diaspora, including Trinidad Ghost, Shawn Storm, Chams, DJ Puffy, and Robbo Ranx, among others. Despite being incarcerated since September 2011, Vybz Kartel’s influence and impact on the music industry continue to resonate deeply with fans worldwide.
Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was convicted in 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, one of his associates. He was sentenced to life imprisonment alongside fellow artiste Shawn Storm and two others, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John. The court ordered Kartel to serve 35 years before being eligible for parole, while his co-accused were sentenced to 25 years minimum.
Although the Jamaica Court of Appeal essentially upheld their convictions in April 2020, the four men’s parole-serving times were reduced by two and a half years each, leading fans to anticipate Kartel’s potential return in the future.
Despite his incarceration, Vybz Kartel’s musical legacy and impact continue to endure, leaving fans excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
