Prominent deejay Aidonia recently launched his new Q&A series on Youtube called “Ask Aidonia.” In the series, he gives fans a glimpse into his personal and professional life. On Wednesday afternoon, the entertainer again took to social media to share some insight about the artists who influenced his musical journey.
The multi-slide Instagram post featuring photos of the respective entertainers was captioned, “some of the artistes who influenced my journey. Oh and IG only allows 10 pics lol. Big up Spragga benz, terro fabulos, baby wayne, mad cobra, Super Cat, Ninja Man, Admiral Bailey, tiger, Papa San, Lt Stitchie, Professor Nuts.”
However, some members of the dancehall community appear disgruntled with his list of eleven veterans, particularly the fans of Vybz Kartel. They are criticizing the 4th Genna Boss for excluding the Gaza deejay.
“when u don’t see vybz kartel on the list.” one commenter wrote.
In response to the backlash, several fans scurried to the defence of Aidonia, with one stating, “When @aidonia4thgenna started in music before he got the big recognition these were the men In music. Kartel was just like him, a youth want a buss. So therefore someone of such could not have been an inspiration to his craft. Kartel would have been to the generations after that saw him at the top.”
Aidonia’s latest post has seemingly left some dancehall fans in a conundrum. The “Frsh Drop” hitmaker subsequently published a video snippet of himself driving and chuckling with the caption “Aye sah”, supposedly reacting to the feedback.
While some may not agree with his list of influences, it’s important to remember that everyone’s musical journey is unique. It will be interesting to see what else Aidonia has in store for his fans in the foreseeable future.
Prior to the controversy, Aidonia had announced that he will be embarking on a five-city tour of the United States in the coming weeks. The tour will take him to several stops throughout the U.S. eastern seaboard, starting on June 11th in New York City and culminating on September 16th in Miami, Florida.
