At CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theatre owners in the US, Rihanna announced that she will voice the character of Smurfette, as well as write music for the upcoming movie based on the children’s characters, The Smurfs.
The singer and business magnate revealed she will play a “blue badass” in the film, due for release in February 2025. Rihanna jokingly stated that she had tried to get the role of Papa Smurf, but it didn’t work out. Chris Miller will direct the new movie.
“I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester. I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day,” Rihanna stated.
The Smurfs were created by Belgian artist Peyo and portray a colony of small blue creatures who live in a forest. The characters have been featured in various TV series and movies, most recently in the 2017 movie Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Rihanna previously voiced a character in the animated film Home and starred in live-action films, including Battleship, Ocean’s 8, and This Is The End.
