Vybz Kartel has secured his third UK song certification as Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor”, the 2009 dance anthem featuring the Jamaican dancehall star and Afrojack, has been certified Silver after surpassing 200,000 combined sales and streams in the United Kingdom. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) awarded the certification on Friday, October 23, marking another international milestone for Kartel ahead of his forthcoming album The Sun, announced for release on December 18, 2026.
Originally released on July 6, 2009, “Pon De Floor” appeared on Major Lazer’s debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do. The track went on to reach No. 41 on Billboard’s Dance Digital Song Sales chart, while its influence extended beyond the dance music scene. Beyoncé later sampled its beat for her global hit “Run the World (Girls)”, introducing elements of the production to an even wider pop audience.
The song’s recognition also reached Billboard’s 100 Best Dance Songs of All Time, where it ranked at No. 60. Kartel was one of only two Jamaican artistes featured on the list, alongside Grace Jones, whose 1981 hit “Pull Up to the Bumper” ranked at No. 82. The latest certification underscores the lasting reach of a collaboration that brought Jamaican dancehall into conversation with international electronic dance music.
“Pon De Floor” is Kartel’s third UK-certified song, following Gold for “Fever” in July 2026 and Silver for “Summertime” in 2025. The latest award adds to a period of renewed activity for the artiste, whose 2026 album God & Time featured collaborations with international stars including Wizkid, Farruko and Mavado. According to Prism Marketing Consultants’ October 5 report, The Sun is scheduled to follow on December 18, with producer Chambah Music attached to the project.
As anticipation builds for the new album, the “Pon De Floor” certification offers a reminder of Kartel’s ability to remain part of the international music conversation through both his recent releases and his back catalogue. With the UK milestone adding to his growing list of commercial achievements, attention now turns to whether The Sun will deliver another defining chapter in his career.
