Dancehall artiste Rytikal is drawing a firm line around his catalogue, warning producers not to release unreleased material featuring him without clearance from his management. In a public statement posted to his official Instagram account on August 30, the Chosen hitmaker declared that any unauthorised releases would be taken down, while also taking aim at the retitling, relabelling and repackaging of older material for “hype or attention”.
“To all producers, if you have any unreleased material with me, please do not release it without clearance from my management. Unauthorized releases will be taken down,” Rytikal wrote. He went further, warning producers against presenting older songs as something they were never intended to be. “Please do not misrepresent old material or songs by retitling, relabeling, or presenting them as something they were never intended to be for hype or attention.”
The statement is particularly notable because it is not the first time Rytikal has publicly raised concerns about previously recorded music being released without his blessing. In 2022, the artiste warned fans that older material could surface without his authority and cautioned that such releases should not necessarily be viewed as representing his current artistic direction.
The latest message, however, makes one thing unmistakably clear: Rytikal wants greater control over how his music is released and represented. As he concluded, “Please respect the art and the artist.” For producers holding old recordings or unreleased collaborations, the warning appears to leave little room for misunderstanding.
