Karol G’s ‘Bby WOW’ has surged from No. 16 to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Cordell “Skatta” Burrell’s Coolie Dance rhythm its second appearance inside the chart’s Top 10, more than two decades after the Jamaican production first emerged. The song, which features Spanish artistes Judeline and rusowsky, follows Nina Sky’s ‘Move Ya Body’, which climbed to No. 4 on the Hot 100 in 2004 after sampling Coolie Dance.
The latest jump adds another major chapter to the remarkable history of Coolie Dance. Burrell’s production has been used across dancehall, hip-hop and pop, with records including Pitbull’s ‘Culo’, Elephant Man and KipRich’s ‘Jook Gal (Wine Wine)’ featuring YoungBloodZ, and Mr Vegas’ ‘Pull Up’ also carrying the riddim into the US market. In 2004, multiple songs built around the production appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, demonstrating how far the Jamaican rhythm had travelled beyond its original dancehall setting.
Meanwhile, ‘Bby WOW’ has been performing strongly across multiple Billboard charts. The song reached No. 1 on both Hot Latin Songs and Hot Latin Rhythm Songs, while Billboard reported its rapid rise on the global charts as it reached the upper tier of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. rankings. The achievement also reinforces the international reach of Jamaican production, with a riddim created more than 20 years ago continuing to provide the musical foundation for contemporary global hits.
For Skatta, whose Coolie Dance has already been associated with several international crossover records, the latest Billboard milestone is another reminder of the production’s unusual staying power. From Nina Sky’s No. 4 Hot 100 peak in 2004 to Karol G’s ‘Bby WOW’ breaking into the Top 10 in 2026, the riddim has crossed generations, genres and borders while retaining its unmistakable Jamaican identity.
