Three projects. Three Top 2 debuts. No Jamaican artiste has matched the feat in the past decade. Between 2016 and 2026, Popcaan’s Forever, Vanquish and Fixtape each debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart, giving the Unruly Boss a remarkable run that places him in a category of his own. Forever opened at No. 2 in 2018 after selling 1,484 copies in its first week, Vanquish followed with another No. 2 debut after its December 2019 release, and Fixtape completed the hat-trick in 2020 while also becoming Popcaan’s first Billboard 200 entry at No. 94.
The achievement becomes even more notable when placed alongside some of dancehall’s biggest chart contenders. Alkaline came closest during the same period, debuting at No. 1 with New Level Unlocked in 2016 and at No. 2 with Top Prize in 2021, before his 2026 album NPT entered at No. 10. Top Prize moved 2,957 total album-equivalent units in its opening week, including 1,527 pure album sales, while New Level Unlocked sold 741 copies in its first week.
For Popcaan, the three No. 2 openings form part of a wider Billboard story. Fixtape generated approximately 8,800 first-week equivalent units and later moved more than 34,000 units during 2021, while its Billboard 200 breakthrough underlined the growing international reach of the Jamaican star and his OVO Sound era. Meanwhile, his 2023 album Great Is He debuted at No. 3 on the Reggae Albums chart, narrowly missing a fourth Top 2 opening.
Popcaan’s run is also a reminder that chart success is about more than simply reaching No. 1. Consistency matters. Across Forever, Vanquish and Fixtape, the deejay delivered three consecutive projects that opened just one position below the summit, a level of consistency that has set him apart among Jamaican artistes over the 2016–2026 period. With Popcaan still active and his music continuing to circulate through dancehall and international audiences, the bigger question now is whether anyone can match his three-project Top 2 Billboard run, or whether the Unruly Boss will eventually add another chapter to it.
