Alkaline doesn’t give interviews often, but when he does, the dancehall star rarely leaves the conversation without giving fans something to debate. Following his performances at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and Dream Weekend in Montego Bay, the Vendetta deejay offered a rare glimpse into how he views his influence on dancehall, boldly declaring that he has already helped change the genre and the way audiences perceive it. Speaking with JussBussTV, Alkaline said that while some people may refuse to acknowledge his impact, he is confident the evidence speaks for itself. “We change dancehall already and how people even view the genre and nuff likkle tings bout it. The atmosphere and every likkle ting enuh. The proof deh deh,” he said.

The comments arrive at a significant point in Alkaline’s career. His latest album, NPT, debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, giving him his third entry on the tally after New Level Unlocked and Top Prize. The album subsequently climbed to No. 9, while its commercial performance across Caribbean markets has further strengthened the case for Alkaline’s international reach. NPT was released in March and was also the first dancehall album to debut on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart in 2026.

Alkaline also addressed the doubters who once questioned whether he would reach his current level of success. Asked if he realises that some fans never expected him to attain such heights, he replied, “Yeah man! Lots of people,” before explaining that consistent work eventually changed their perspective. “Over time and dem see the works, and the influence and result dem tun believers,” he added. His comments come as he continues to build a résumé that includes major international performances, Billboard chart success and recognition at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards, where he is nominated for Male Dancehall Artist of the Year and the People’s Choice Award.

However, Alkaline made it equally clear that controversy is not central to his strategy. While public disputes and lyrical confrontations have historically generated attention within dancehall, the Vendetta deejay distanced himself from that approach. “Dat a just fi dem ting, dat a nuh our ting, we just focus and duh the music,” he said. The statement reinforces the low-profile philosophy that has defined much of his career, with the artiste seemingly more interested in allowing his catalogue, performances and commercial results to make the argument.

For an artiste who has spent years letting the music do most of the talking, Alkaline’s latest comments offer a rare direct assessment of his own legacy. With NPT continuing its international run and his profile remaining strong across dancehall’s key markets, the question now is whether the genre’s audience will agree with his assessment that “the proof deh deh.”
