Nearly 20 years after their unforgettable Sting showdown helped define a generation of dancehall, Vybz Kartel and Mavado are set to reunite on one of the world’s biggest stages. The dancehall icons will headline Gaza Vs Gully Live at London’s O2 Arena on September 9, fresh off Kartel’s sold-out return to the venue and ahead of another reunion at Reggae Sumfest, with tickets going on general sale today.
The highly anticipated event marks another milestone in one of dancehall’s most celebrated rivalries. Kartel and Mavado’s legendary lyrical confrontation at Sting in 2006 remains one of the most talked-about moments in the festival’s history, helping propel both artistes to the forefront of Jamaican music. What was once viewed as a fierce musical rivalry has since evolved into one of dancehall’s biggest success stories, with both stars continuing to command audiences around the world.
The London concert follows what is shaping up to be a busy period for the two entertainers. Before taking over The O2, Kartel and Mavado are scheduled to appear together at Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica later this month before travelling to Malta to headline the Freedom Street Europe festival in September. Kartel returns to the UK after selling out two shows at The O2 during his Worl’ Boss Global Tour last year, while Mavado also made his UK return in 2025 with a performance at Reggae Land. Kartel is also scheduled to headline this year’s edition of the festival in August.
Musically, both artistes continue to keep fans engaged. Kartel released his latest studio album, God & Time, in June, with Mavado appearing among the featured collaborators. Meanwhile, Mavado continues to build anticipation for new music after releasing his single Big Money in March and making several guest appearances, despite not having released a studio album since 2009’s Mr. Brooks… A Better Tomorrow.
With two of dancehall’s most influential figures once again sharing the spotlight, Gaza Vs Gully Live is already shaping up to be one of the genre’s biggest international events of the year. For longtime fans and a new generation alike, the reunion promises to celebrate the legacy, evolution and global reach of Jamaican dancehall.
