Despite Jamaica’s heartbreaking exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, dancehall heavyweight Masicka has emerged as an unlikely global winner, as his 2024 hit Whites was adopted as the unofficial celebration anthem by the Democratic Republic of the Congo following their dramatic 1–0 extra-time victory over the Reggae Boyz in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The decisive moment came courtesy of Axel Tuanzebe, whose late strike sealed DR Congo’s first World Cup qualification since 1974, ending a 52-year drought. However, it was the post-match scenes that captured global attention. In viral footage shared by Ntumba Massanka, jubilant Congolese players and supporters were seen waving flags and passionately singing along to Whites, transforming the dancehall track into a soundtrack for one of African football’s most historic moments.

The magnitude of the achievement extended beyond sport, with the Congolese government declaring April 1, 2026, a national holiday to commemorate the milestone. Meanwhile, online discourse intensified as Massanka tagged Masicka alongside the Jamaica Football Federation, sparking conversation around the intersection of music, sport, and cultural rivalry. Ironically, while Jamaica’s football ambitions were halted, the island’s cultural export surged, with Whites amassing over 34 million YouTube views and now embedded in a global sporting narrative.

Meanwhile, Masicka’s international run shows no signs of slowing. His latest single Boasty continues to dominate locally, hitting No. 1 on Apple Music Jamaica and trending on YouTube, reinforcing his position as one of dancehall’s most influential voices. While the Reggae Boyz reflect on another missed World Cup opportunity, Masicka stands at the centre of a different kind of victory — one where Jamaican music transcends borders, fuels global moments, and proves that dancehall’s impact stretches far beyond the pitch.
