From a childhood dream of watching Grammy night to standing centre stage at music’s biggest awards show, Lila Iké’s reggae journey reaches a defining milestone this Sunday, February 1. The Jamaican songbird is set to make her historic performance debut at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards opening ceremony, while also standing as the sole female nominee in this year’s Best Reggae Album category. The ceremony takes place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, marking a major global moment for contemporary reggae.

The Manchester native announced the news via social media on Wednesday, describing the opportunity as a full-circle moment. “I remember the little girl who loved singing and decided she wanted to be an artiste. Attending the GRAMMYs was a very big dream of hers,” Iké shared. “Now, not only do I get to walk the red carpet as a nominee, but I’m also honoured to be performing at the opening ceremony. God is amazing.” Her inclusion on the opening stage signals a powerful nod to reggae’s evolving global footprint.

Iké is a first-time Grammy nominee, earning recognition for her critically acclaimed debut album Treasure Self Love. The project showcases her signature blend of roots reggae, soul and modern influences, with standout collaborations featuring R&B star H.E.R., rapper Joey Bada$$, Masicka, and mentor Protoje, himself a Grammy nominee. In the Best Reggae Album race, Iké stands alongside Jamaican heavyweights Vybz Kartel, Jesse Royal, Keznamdi and Mortimer, making her position as the sole female contender even more significant.

Should she secure the win, Lila Iké would become only the second woman in history to take home the Best Reggae Album trophy, following Koffee’s groundbreaking victory. Regardless of the outcome, her opening ceremony performance already cements her place in Grammy history, setting the tone for a night that could redefine the future of reggae on the world’s biggest stage.
