Nothing cements cultural dominance quite like a moment frozen in time — and in 2025, Billboard has placed Jamaica’s King of Dancehall, Vybz Kartel, among its Best Photography of the Year, spotlighting him as one of the 60 most memorable and defining images across music and pop culture. The honour underscores Kartel’s enduring global relevance, arriving at a time when his influence continues to stretch far beyond dancehall and deep into fashion, digital media and international branding.

The annual Billboard photography roundup celebrates the images that shaped the year’s music narrative, capturing everyone from breakout stars to legacy icons. While 2025 saw women dominate many of the magazine’s standout covers — including Tems, Erykah Badu, Cardi B, Rosalía and ROSÉ — the men made equally powerful statements. Kartel, notably, fronted Billboard’s first digital cover of the year, a symbolic nod to both his longevity and his digital-era dominance. The feature placed him alongside names such as Khalid, Leon Thomas and EMPIRE CEO Ghazi, reinforcing his status as a pillar of global music culture.

Beyond covers, Billboard’s lenses documented the year’s full spectrum of influence, from rising talents like BigXThaPlug and Mariah The Scientist to industry legends including Joni Mitchell and Daddy Yankee. In that context, Kartel’s inclusion stands out not simply as representation, but as recognition of dancehall’s sustained global impact — a genre he has helped push into new markets for over two decades.

Meanwhile, the photographic milestone lands just days after Kartel expanded his empire into luxury fashion through a limited-edition partnership with high-end streetwear brand GUAPI, which officially dropped on 8 December. Branded as a “global moment,” the GUAPI × WORLD BOSS collection blends bold street aesthetics with Jamaican cultural pride, offering statement tees, hoodies, mesh tops and accessories that mirror Kartel’s unapologetic persona. The collaboration further cements his ability to translate musical influence into high-demand lifestyle branding.

As the curtains fall on 2025, Vybz Kartel’s presence across Billboard, fashion spreads and digital culture tells a larger story — one where Caribbean artistry doesn’t just participate in global pop culture, but actively shapes it. And if the year’s most powerful images are any indication, the Worl’ Boss is far from done making history.
