Spice’s long-awaited Ugandan debut has been unexpectedly derailed, leaving thousands of East African fans disappointed just days before the Queen of Dancehall was set to touch down. The Grammy-nominated star confirmed on Tuesday that she will not perform in Kampala on 6 December, citing the promoter’s failure to meet contractual requirements—an issue she addressed directly to her 4.8 million Instagram followers.

The cancellation comes months after Ugandan fans began gearing up for what had been positioned as one of the region’s most anticipated dancehall events of 2025. Spice’s December appearance was set to be her first in Uganda but her third time on the continent, following a vibrant cultural trip to Ghana in late 2024 and a memorable birthday celebration at Victoria Falls in 2021. Those earlier visits only heightened excitement for her Kampala show, with many fans expressing that they’d waited “far too long” to experience her electrifying stage presence. However, in her Instagram announcement, the star made her disappointment clear: “I was truly excited and looking forward to meeting my brothers and sisters there, but unfortunately the promoter did not fulfill the contractual agreements.”

Even with this setback, Spice’s global momentum remains undeniable. Just days ago, her debut studio album 10 re-entered the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, soaring back to No. 8—four years after its initial chart run. The album has become a modern dancehall powerhouse, racking up more than 140,000 U.S. units, over 448 million Spotify streams, and a groundbreaking 2-star A2IM certification, making it the most-certified album by a female dancehall artist. Its lead single, “Go Down Deh,” continues to dominate worldwide, recently returning to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae chart and pulling in massive global traction, including 329 million Spotify streams and billions of video views across YouTube Shorts and Reels.

The timing of this latest chart resurgence only underscores Spice’s iron-clad influence. While the Kampala cancellation is undoubtedly a blow for her Ugandan fanbase, the dancehall superstar shows no signs of slowing her reign. With a wave of renewed global interest and her ongoing philanthropic efforts through the Grace Hamilton Foundation, audiences worldwide continue to watch closely for her next move.
