Jamaica’s Entertainment Fraternity Delivers Strong Support with Relief Efforts for Victims of Hurricane Melissa

Jamaica’s entertainment fraternity has banded together in a powerful humanitarian push following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which battered the parishes of St. Elizabeth, Hanover, St. James, Trelawny, and St. Ann. Among those leading the charge are Shaggy, Sean Paul, Masicka, Beenie Man, Romeich Major, Spice, Vybz Kartel, producer and Dunw3ll, with crucial support from organisations like the MADE Foundation, Zimi Entertainment, and Starlight Production. Their collective efforts have provided vital aid to marooned communities and brought renewed hope to thousands of families across the island.

Shaggy was among the first entertainers to arrive on the scene, personally coordinating two private jet flights carrying essential supplies, including food, water, and medical aid, for residents stranded in southern and western Jamaica. His swift mobilisation—executed with the help of close associates and private partners—set the tone for the entertainment industry’s nationwide response. Meanwhile, Sean Paul, through the Sean Paul Foundation, not only pledged to match donations up to US $50,000 but also joined forces with Food For The Poor Jamaica to deliver tons of supplies to shelters and affected households. His outreach extended across several parishes, combining financial support with boots-on-the-ground action.

Adding to the momentum, Minister Floyd Green, Masicka, and Dunw3ll joined efforts with the MADE Foundation, Fort MJ Trucking, and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to reach Slipe, St. Elizabeth, one of the areas hardest hit by the hurricane. Their team distributed food packages, hygiene kits, and emergency supplies to residents who had been cut off for days. Beenie Man and his Rescue Team also played a hands-on role, delivering relief directly to the St. Elizabeth Hospital and neighbouring communities still struggling to recover.

In the west, Romeich Major, along with Zimi Entertainment and Starlight Production, spearheaded an extensive outreach program that covered St. James, and Hanover, providing care packages and other essentials to affected families. Major described the effort as “a duty to the people who have always stood with us,” encouraging more industry players to get involved.

Rounding out the unified response, Spice and Vybz Kartel have publicly pledged to assist with ongoing rebuilding initiatives and relief drives. Their commitment, alongside that of fellow entertainers, underscores a shared sense of compassion and responsibility within Jamaica’s creative community. Together, these cultural powerhouses have turned their platforms into vehicles for healing—proving that the heartbeat of Jamaican entertainment lies not just in music, but in solidarity and service.
