Dancehall artiste Squash is in the midst of a complex legal battle in the United States, as his plea hearing has been delayed until Friday, September 5, and the threat of imprisonment and deportation looms. The Montego Bay native, born Andrae Maurice Whittaker, plans to plead guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a machine gun—charges that carry serious prison time. The hearing, originally set for Wednesday, September 3, was postponed by 48 hours due to a scheduling conflict with his attorney.

Squash’s shift from a not guilty plea comes after prosecutors indicated they would introduce content from his song “Shubout”, including lyrics and the music video, as evidence. They also planned to use material from his phone. Facing the possibility of up to 10 years in prison per charge, the entertainer chose a plea deal over a high-stakes trial. “Prosecutors planned to introduce lyrics from his song ‘Shubout,’ as well as the music video, as evidence,” court documents reveal, a move that reportedly influenced his decision.

His U.S. legal troubles are compounded by a complex immigration history. Squash entered the country illegally in 2021 after his visa was revoked following a short stay in 2019, and he was previously detained in 2023 after a gun-related stop, which resulted in ICE initiating removal proceedings. While he was released on bond following marriage to an American citizen, the plea deal now brings the potential for deportation into sharp focus.

Prosecutors have also alleged that Squash is the head of a transnational criminal organisation and a known violent producer in Jamaica—serious claims that could impact both his legal outcome and his reputation abroad. The exact terms of his plea deal remain undisclosed, but it appears to offer a strategic path to reduce his exposure to lengthy prison time.

Fans and the dancehall community are watching closely as Squash navigates this critical moment. While the plea deal may limit his time behind bars, the looming deportation threat casts a shadow over his U.S. career, leaving the 6ix Boss’s next chapter uncertain as the rescheduled hearing approaches.
