Fashion model and former Miss Jamaica Universe, Davina Bennett, is counting her blessings after a terrifying accident left her hospitalised during New York Fashion Week. The 29-year-old model, who rose to global prominence as the second runner-up at Miss Universe 2017, revealed she was struck by a vehicle late Saturday night (September 13) just minutes away from her New York City home.

Bennett shared the ordeal with her followers in a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday, describing how a normal evening turned tragic. “I stopped at a pedestrian crossing…when the signal came, I stepped off the curb, and that’s when I was hit! The next thing I knew, I was waking up in an ambulance,” she recalled, adding that the experience left her “scared, confused, crying, and in shock.”

Despite the severity of the incident, doctors marvelled at her condition, telling her it was “extraordinary” she hadn’t suffered any fractures. Instead, Bennett sustained bruises and significant pain. “I smiled and said, ‘It’s God,’” she wrote, attributing her survival to divine protection.

The accident came just hours after she walked the runway for stylist Kahlana Barfield’s collaboration with Target—marking her first-ever New York Fashion Week. While she admitted the ordeal prematurely ended her debut, Bennett stressed her determination to keep pushing forward. “This might be the end of my first fashion week, I’m currently in severe pain, but I’m grateful to be alive…This was unfortunate, but it won’t be the end of my journey,” she declared.

Her bravery and optimism quickly drew an outpouring of support from fans, fellow models, and well-wishers across the globe. For Bennett, the near-death scare has only strengthened her resolve, reminding her—and the industry—that resilience remains as much a part of her story as beauty and elegance.
