Sometimes the biggest hits are born when no one’s trying to make one. For Ras-I, a laid-back studio jam turned into magic when the words “bad energy deh pan pause ’cause Rastafari in charge” effortlessly slipped out. “It was just a normal day,” Ras-I recalled, but that spontaneous hook became the core of what is quickly becoming a powerful new reggae-dancehall anthem. The track, “Rastafari in Charge,” blends infectious energy with a conscious message—and it all began with a single line and a shared vibe.

Ras-I was vibing with Koastal Kings’ Keneil on a rough guitar melody when inspiration struck. “Keneil had a sketch of a melody idea and I heard it and ran through ideas in my head,” Ras-I explained. Then came the hook, sparking a moment of collective excitement. They didn’t overthink it—no rewrites, no big concept—just raw creativity, rooted in Ras-I’s lifelong Rasta philosophy and a commitment to uplifting energy.

The magic intensified when Ras-I sent the track to Munga Honorable, expecting him to give it a listen later. Instead, Munga jumped in his car and drove straight to the studio. “He told us to send him the studio location and give him ten minutes, and ten minutes later, he was in the studio with us,” Ras-I shared. Munga’s verse landed effortlessly, his seasoned delivery syncing perfectly with Ras-I’s melodic message.

Built on a guitar-heavy riddim enhanced with a pop sheen, “Rastafari in Charge” maintains its dancehall essence while pushing for crossover appeal. “Most of my songs are centred around guitar,” Ras-I said, crediting Koastal Kings for refining the mix to bring out both grit and gloss. It’s a modern sound rooted in tradition, driven by an infectious hook and a message of spiritual elevation.

For Ras-I, it’s more than a song—it’s a moment and a movement. “I want what began as a studio jam to become a movement,” he says, “and to prove that sometimes, the most powerful anthems are born from pure inspiration, good vibes, and the enduring spirit of Rastafari.” With Munga Honourable by his side and a message that cuts through the noise, “Rastafari in Charge” is poised to be more than a banger—it’s a reminder that real music still lives where the vibes are right.
