Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper is preparing to release her highly anticipated seven-track EP, Golden Fleece, on September 5—just five days before she faces a critical court hearing tied to charges of disorderly conduct at Norman Manley International Airport. The September 10 appearance at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court is expected to hinge on the submission of her medical files, a requirement that has delayed previous proceedings. Despite the looming legal battle, Hyper remains focused on her music and her personal rebirth.
The former “First Lady of Gaza,” born Felicia Gooden, says the project represents a new chapter in her artistry. “I believe I am a ‘Golden Fleece’…not just musically but spiritually as well,” she explained, referencing the mythological symbol of power and independence. The EP features collaborations with Rajah Wild and Eddy G, and standout tracks such as Hard Drive, Caan Leave Yu, Self Love, Buck Up Pon God, Cups Up, and Soul Cry, where she candidly addresses her mental health struggles. Early indicators suggest strong traction, with Caan Leave Yu already charting in unexpected markets such as Vietnam, South Korea, and Lithuania.
Beyond the music, Hyper is determined to transform her personal challenges into purpose-driven advocacy. She announced plans to launch the Gooden Foundation for Mental Health and Down’s Syndrome, signalling a move into philanthropy while urging others struggling with mental health issues to seek professional guidance. “I am an optimistic person overall, so mi no mek nothing worry me. God knows best,” she said when asked about the upcoming court date.
