Joe Bogdanovich, the driving force behind Reggae Sumfest and a key architect of Jamaica’s modern cultural renaissance, will be honoured with the International Achievement Award by the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) at the 2025 Hummingbird Gala. The star-studded event is set to take place on October 10 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, where Bogdanovich will be recognised for his unwavering commitment to the development of Jamaican music, culture, and community empowerment.
Through his company, Downsound Entertainment, Bogdanovich has transformed Reggae Sumfest into a world-class festival while ensuring it remains rooted in Jamaican identity. “We’ve expanded our reach, uplifted more local talent, and used the platform to support youth, culture, and tourism in powerful ways,” he said. The 2025 edition of the festival was hailed as one of the most successful in its history, thanks to enhanced production, thoughtful programming, and a lineup that balanced musical icons with rising stars.
For Bogdanovich, the accolade is more than personal recognition—it’s validation of a broader mission. “This honour reminds me that the work we do through music, culture, and community has real impact far beyond the stage,” he shared. “What we created was not just a festival—it was a celebration of Jamaican excellence. And a reminder that the world is still watching and vibing with us.”
The AFJ also announced that fellow cultural advocate Jason Henzell will receive the International Humanitarian Award at the same event. In a statement, AFJ Executive Director Caron Chung noted, “We are thrilled to honour Jason Henzell and Joe Bogdanovich, two individuals whose work has transformed lives and strengthened communities across Jamaica.”
Looking ahead, Bogdanovich is focused on legacy-building, not just through events, but through mentorship. His son, Joey Bogdanovich, has recently begun taking a more active role in the entertainment space. “It’s not just about succession, it’s about values and exposing him to the heart and soul of what we do,” said the proud father.
