Dancehall star Cham is facing one of the most personal and painful chapters of his life — the death of his beloved mother, Mama Jennie. The entertainer, known for hits like Ghetto Story and Vitamin S, took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news with fans. In a moving tribute, Cham wrote, “The Most Beautiful Human Being I Know… Mama Jennie I Love You With All My Body And Soul.” He accompanied the message with a touching video montage of cherished moments, capturing the deep bond they shared.

The news has sparked a powerful wave of support from the entertainment fraternity, with tributes pouring in from across genres. Bounty Killer, Sean Paul, Usain Bolt, and Kardinal Offishall were among the many who offered condolences. Wayne Wonder remembered her as “a heart full of love and a gentle, calming spirit that could quiet any storm,” while Mr. G called her “a woman of God… classy, compassionate, and caring.” Mr. Lexx, Romain Virgo, Majah Hype, and Gramps Morgan also shared prayers and messages of strength, reflecting just how beloved Mama Jennie was in her community and beyond.

This emotional moment comes at a pivotal time in Cham’s career, as he promotes his newly released fourth studio album Sherlock. Released on July 25 via his Lawless Army Music imprint, the eight-track project dives deep into his roots and resilience. “I wanted people to see the streets that made Baby Cham,” he explained in a social media post, referencing his upbringing in Duhaney Park, Kingston 20. Featuring collaborations with Stephen and Damian Marley, as well as production from The FaNaTiX, CopperShaun, and DJ Karim, Sherlock balances raw street energy with reflective storytelling.

The lead single “Hustling In My Blood,” featuring the Marley brothers, has already racked up over 441,000 views on YouTube, and serves as a powerful anthem of perseverance. Other standout tracks like “Lamborghini Boy” and “Hall of Fame” explore both the glamour and grit of Cham’s journey, reinforcing his dual identity as a Kingston street poet and global dancehall ambassador.

Cham is also back on the road, headlining a string of live shows across North America and the Caribbean. From Baltimore to Bermuda, and an upcoming performance aboard the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, the Lawless Army frontman is proving that even in the face of deep personal loss, his mission continues. In honouring his mother’s legacy through music and community, Cham reminds us that grief and greatness often walk side by side.
