Following the failed Vybz Kartel concert, The Trinidad and Tobago Promoters Association (TTPA) has distanced itself from the organisers of the controversial One Caribbean Music Festival and is now calling for sweeping legislative reform in the entertainment and tourism sectors, citing the need for modern protections for patrons, creatives, and promoters. Describing the situation as “pivotal,” the association is leveraging the widespread fallout to press for urgent policy changes and improved industry standards.

In an official statement released on June 3, the TTPA emphasized that the event’s producer, Jacho Entertainment, is not affiliated with the organization, asserting, “To be clear – we do not speak for the group nor do we speak on behalf of the group.” Still, the association acknowledged the broader damage such failures inflict on the local industry and national reputation. “We are saddened that brand TT has been brought into disrepute in an area where we routinely shine, However, we want to say – at all times, it is our hope that events held on our shores are executed successfully. When that does not happen, it impacts the whole industry,” the TTPA said, adding that “solid business practices” are essential to safeguarding the sector.

The TTPA intends to resume discussions with the Attorney General’s Office to pursue “specific and modern legislation” that will protect event stakeholders from future debacles. The association also plans to engage ministries responsible for culture, trade, finance, and the creative economy to lead what it calls a “consultative approach” toward deep reform.

Former TTPA president and well-known promoter Jerome “Rome” Precilla also weighed in, expressing concern over the ripple effects of this and other high-profile event failures. “You will find that patrons may be a bit sceptical in going to future events,” he noted via Instagram, referencing the lingering distrust following the earlier Keyshia Cole incident. Despite this, he reassured artists that Trinidad and Tobago remains a viable and vibrant destination for live entertainment: “We are guaranteeing international acts that TT is a safe place to have your concerts.”
