Following her role in Paramount Pictures’ Bob Marley: One Love biopic, Jamaican actress and songbird Sevana is broadening her artistry as the star of Threads of Us, a powerful new independent feature film written by Donisha Prendergast — granddaughter of reggae royalty Bob and Rita Marley. The emotionally gripping drama follows Danielle, a Kingston-based seamstress portrayed by Sevana, whose quiet life with her lover Malcolm (played by Shomari Downer) is torn apart when he’s wrongfully accused of a crime. Directed by acclaimed Caribbean filmmaker Mykal Cushnie, the film explores themes of love, injustice, and resistance through a poetic, distinctly Jamaican lens.

“Threads of Us is rooted in the real rhythm of Jamaican life,” said Cushnie, known for his work on Mission Catwalk, Sweetest Taboo, and Run Kenya. “We’re telling a story that’s as poetic as it is powerful — and unapologetically Jamaican.” The production boasts an all-Caribbean cast and crew, including beloved actor Owen “Blakka” Ellis, Simon “Vision” Alexander, Jo-Anne Williams (mother of Grammy winner Koffee), and a soundtrack featuring Grammy-winning reggae acts and producers. Backed by production houses like Direct Shoot Edit Jamaica, Humanity Ova Vanity (HOV), and the Bob Marley Museum, the film also serves a deeper purpose, with community outreach initiatives and mentorship programmes planned alongside its release.

Hot on the heels of the film’s wrap, Sevana is set to bring her soulful vocals and emotive storytelling to stages across the U.K. for her Need Me Tour. Running from June 17 to 19, the tour will hit Bush Hall in London, Blues Kitchen in Manchester, and Hare and Hounds in Birmingham. Sharing the bill is Grammy- and Emmy-nominated artist-producer Tessellated, who recently dropped his Latin-tinged summer single “Georgina.” Together, the pair are set to showcase the richness and range of Jamaica’s new musical generation.

With another powerful film role under her belt and a promising international tour ahead, Sevana is proving that her creative reach extends far beyond the studio mic. Whether on screen or stage, she continues to champion Caribbean artistry in bold, resonant ways.
