In a candid new interview with Vogue Italia, the Pink Friday hitmaker revealed she’s pressing pause on releasing her next album — not because of a creative slump, but because she wants the music to mean something. “I’ve got a bunch of really strong tracks, but I don’t want to rush,” Minaj said. “I want the record to mean something, both for the fans and for me. I’ll never be one of those people who puts out songs just to put them out. I love music. I respect it.”
Following the commercial success of Pink Friday 2, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in December 2023 with 228,000 equivalent album units — the biggest week for a female rap album in the 2020s — many fans expected a quick follow-up. But Minaj, now focused on intention rather than immediacy, is opting to protect her creative integrity in a content-hungry industry. “When the time is right, I’ll be back,” she teased, also hinting at another tour. “And when I do return, I want to tour again — for me, and for the Barbz.”
Minaj also reflected on her viral fame and fashion icon status, including the widely memed “Did I Lie?” clip from a 2018 CRWN interview. “I hate how I look in that video,” she confessed, before admitting, “Then I gave in — it’s actually pretty funny.” More recently, she turned heads at the 2025 Met Gala in a navy pinstripe Thom Browne mermaid gown, which she said reminded her of “putting on your Sunday’s best and being iconic in your own world.”
