Soca music is no longer confined to Carnival circuits and island shores — it’s breaking barriers and reaching new global heights, and this summer, Canada will witness a historic milestone in that journey. Internationally acclaimed Kes the Band is set to headline Toronto’s legendary Budweiser Stage on June 14, 2025 — a first for a soca act — in what’s shaping up to be a cultural moment for Caribbean music in North America. This announcement comes on the heels of frontman Kees Dieffenthaller making history by becoming the first soca artist to sell out two consecutive SummerStage concerts at New York City’s Central Park. Both shows, scheduled for July 5 and 6, sold out within hours, solidifying Kes’ place as a global ambassador for the genre.

“Toronto was one of the very first cities we toured outside of our home, Trinidad & Tobago — and it’s held a special place in our hearts ever since,” said Kees. “To now bring not only KES THE BAND, but Soca music itself to the iconic Budweiser Stage is truly a dream come true — a full circle moment.” With a capacity of 16,000, the Budweiser Stage (formerly the Molson Amphitheatre) has hosted some of the biggest names in music, from rock legends to pop icons, and Kes’ appearance signals a massive leap forward for Caribbean representation on major global stages.

Backed by Summer of Sound Festivals Inc. (SOS Fest), a Toronto-based production company known for pushing cultural boundaries through high-energy Caribbean-inspired events, the show is expected to be a high-octane celebration of island rhythm, unity, and heritage. “To showcase Caribbean music on one of the world’s most recognized stages isn’t just a milestone — it’s a historic moment,” said SOS Fest in a statement. This is Kes’ only Toronto performance for the summer, and with the rising appetite for Caribbean music in Canada, demand is expected to be sky-high. According to recent industry insights, Caribbean music streaming in Canada has seen a 46% year-over-year increase since 2022, with soca experiencing a particularly sharp rise during festival seasons.

From their early beginnings in Trinidad & Tobago to collaborations with global stars, Kes The Band has consistently pushed the boundaries of soca. Their 2024 album Man With No Door further solidified their genre-bending reputation, featuring hits like Miracle, Liki Tiki, and the viral sensation Coco Tea, which racked up over 200 million plays on TikTok alone. Now signed to Ineffable Records, Kes is not just riding a wave — they’re creating one. And as June 14 approaches, all signs point to a seismic celebration of culture, music, and Caribbean excellence right in the heart of Toronto.
