Dancehall legend Beenie Man has firmly dismissed swirling rumours that he was the victim of a harrowing crime, breaking his silence with a statement to fans, family, and industry supporters. “I want to assure you that I am safe and healthy, and I am focused on my music and my family,” the icon stated on Sunday afternoon. His message, posted via his Instagram platform, was a direct response to unverified online reports that sparked concern among fans and industry stakeholders alike. “The rumours about being robbed and shot are completely false and only serve to spread fear and negativity,” he added.

Even amid the noise, the Doctor of Dancehall had much to celebrate. Just weeks prior to issuing his statement, Beenie Man attended the 2025 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), walking away with three top honours: Best Caribbean Entertainer, Best Stagecraft, and the prestigious King of Dancehall title. The IRAWMA, which has recognized global reggae and world music excellence since 1982, continues to spotlight the genre’s greatest ambassadors — and Beenie Man remains firmly among them. “These accolades inspire me to keep pushing boundaries and delivering the best for you all,” he wrote in an Instagram post shortly after the ceremony.

Born Moses Davis, Beenie Man has been a household name in reggae and dancehall since the 1990s, with a decorated career spanning over three decades, dozens of chart-topping hits, and international collaborations with artists like Janet Jackson, Mya, and Nicki Minaj. The Grammy Award-winning artist is no stranger to controversy, but he’s also a master of reinvention — and resilience. In fact, dancehall, as a genre, has long been vulnerable to rumours and misinformation, with several high-profile artists like Aidonia, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, and Alkaline also having to publicly deny false claims over the years. The digital age has only amplified these episodes, where virality often outpaces verification.

Still, Beenie Man’s response wasn’t just about setting the record straight — it was a reaffirmation of his commitment to dancehall culture. “Dancehall is a culture of love and respect, and I will continue to represent it with pride,” he affirmed. With a busy performance calendar and new music on the horizon, the dancehall luminary isn’t letting rumours derail his mission. Instead, he’s doubling down on positivity, progress, and the power of music to unify — a message his fans clearly embrace, as his IRAWMA triumphs only strengthen his already iconic legacy.
