Dancehall star Mavado is mourning the death of his older brother Clinton more popularly known as ‘Bang’, a heartbreaking loss the entertainer shared with fans on Monday morning. Taking to social media, the Gully God posted an emotional tribute featuring images showing his brother’s drastic weight and hair loss, captioning it, “Jah know big brother, I still can’t believe. ???.” While Mavado did not disclose the cause of death, the post was met with an outpouring of condolences from fans and fellow artists, including his former mentor Bounty Killer, who wrote, “Condolences, son ?️???.”

The news of his brother’s passing comes at a turbulent time for Mavado, who is currently entangled in a legal battle with Jamaican authorities. Just days ago, police confirmed that an outstanding 2018 arrest warrant for assault occasioning actual bodily harm remains active against him. This revelation came on the heels of a major legal victory for Mavado’s son, Dante Brooks, whose 2021 murder conviction was overturned by Jamaica’s Court of Appeal after serving seven years behind bars. The entertainer, whose real name is David Brooks, has since vowed to take legal action against the state, calling his son’s imprisonment a “grave miscarriage of justice.”

With over two decades in the industry, Mavado remains one of dancehall’s most influential figures. His breakout 2005 hit Real McKoy cemented his status as a hitmaker, and he has since amassed millions of streams across platforms, with Settle Down and So Special surpassing 30 million views on YouTube. Despite residing in the U.S. for several years, his music continues to resonate globally, contributing to dancehall’s estimated $8 billion JMD impact on the global music industry. However, his legal troubles have raised questions about whether he will ever return to Jamaica, especially with speculation about possible extradition.

Amid personal grief and legal challenges, Mavado’s latest ordeal underscores the deep intersections between dancehall, crime, and the Jamaican justice system. While he mourns in private, the public eye remains fixed on his next move—whether he will fight the charges from abroad or risk returning home to clear his name. One thing is certain: the Gully God is no stranger to adversity, and fans are watching closely to see how he navigates this latest storm.
