Dancehall heavyweight Aidonia has been nominated for ‘Best Male Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ at the 42nd International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), set for March 30, 2025, at the Coral Springs Center for the Art in Florida. This marks his third nomination at the prestigious awards, following nods in 2018 for Male Deejay of the Year and Song of the Year for his hit Banga. Competing in the hotly contested ‘U-Roy Award for Best Male Dancehall/DJ Rapper’ category, Aidonia faces fierce competition from Alkaline, Buju Banton, Masicka, Popcaan, and Chronic Law. “This nomination is a blessing and a testament to the hard work and love I’ve poured into my craft over the past two decades,” Aidonia said, reflecting on his enduring impact on the genre.
This recognition comes during a landmark year for Aidonia, as 2025 marks his 20th anniversary in the music industry. To celebrate, the deejay will headline a grand concert at the UBS Arena in New York on May 3, 2025. The star-studded event will feature reggae and dancehall heavyweights such as Sizzla Kalonji, Mavado, Govana, Cham, and Jada Kingdom, with additional acts to be announced. The UBS Arena, with its 19,000-seat capacity, is set to host what Aidonia promises will be an unforgettable night of music and celebration. Presale tickets, available from January 16, are already generating excitement among fans. “This concert is not just about me; it’s about the fans, the culture, and the journey,” Aidonia shared.
Aidonia’s influence continues to expand through music. Last year, he delivered a series of powerful performances in Europe, North America and the Caribbean. His music has also been featured in popular Netflix series like Supacell and The Black Book, introducing his artistry to a global audience. “Dancehall is a global movement, and I’m proud to be part of its evolution,” he said, highlighting the genre’s growing international reach.
With a career defined by chart-topping hits, high-energy performances, and a commitment to cultural authenticity, Aidonia remains a driving force in dancehall. His recent collaboration with rising star Dee Dre on Guh Hard, released in late 2024, has already gained significant traction on streaming platforms. As fans eagerly anticipate his UBS Arena performance and root for his IRAWMA win, Aidonia’s legacy as one of Jamaica’s most influential and enduring artists continues to shine.
