Dancehall hitmaker Masicka will no longer grace the stage at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street concert on New Year’s Eve, as previously advertised. The withdrawal stems from an exclusive territorial contract with the organisers of the Munk Truck Show and Fireworks, where Masicka is set to perform on January 1, 2025, in Clarendon. The agreement prohibits the artiste from appearing at any other local events before his scheduled performance. Despite this, Masicka remains steadfast in his respect for Kartel, calling him “a legend” and expressing his intent to join him on an international stage in the future to perform their 2017 hit collaboration, Infrared.
This announcement comes as Masicka celebrates a major milestone in his career. His 2022 hit single Tom Brady was recently featured in the British-Jamaican crime drama series Get Millie Black. Created by Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James, the series premiered on Channel 4 in the UK on November 25 and has been lauded for its gritty storytelling and cultural resonance. The inclusion of Tom Brady in the show’s soundtrack underscores the global appeal of Masicka’s music, with the song’s official video amassing over 3.6 million views on YouTube.
Masicka expressed his gratitude to the Munk Truck Show organisers and his fans, promising an unforgettable performance at the highly anticipated event. “I appreciate the support from my fans and the promoters who continue to believe in my craft,” he shared. While fans may be disappointed by his absence from Freedom Street, the artiste’s commitment to delivering quality performances remains unwavering.
As dancehall continues to break international barriers, Masicka’s achievements, alongside those of peers, highlight the genre’s growing influence in mainstream media. From his chart-topping hits to his global recognition, Masicka is cementing his place as one of dancehall’s most versatile and consistent artists.
