Entertainers Beenie Man and Shenseea delivered stellar performances at “Eden Fest” in Auckland, New Zealand, over the weekend, bolstering their global appeal and reinforcing the growing demand for reggae and dancehall music. Sharing the stage with fellow Jamaican YG Marley and international heavyweights like Afrobeat giant Rema and British R&B sensation Jorja Smith, the festival lineup was a testament to the universal love for Caribbean music. As headliners of one of New Zealand’s biggest music festivals, Shenseea and Beenie Man represented Jamaica’s rich musical legacy with vibrant energy and unmatched stage presence.
Shenseea’s international rise has been steady, particularly in British territories, where she recently enjoyed sold-out tour dates and a BPI certification. Beenie Man, a stalwart of the genre, continues to enjoy international success, having built a fanbase that spans decades. His longevity in the industry is characterised by his ability to evolve while staying true to his roots.
While their international triumphs are noteworthy, both Shenseea and Beenie Man remain deeply connected to their Jamaican roots. Shenseea recently made headlines for signing a regional brand ambassadorship with Sunshine Snacks alongside her son, Raj. The partnership, tied to the company’s 50th anniversary, aims to capture the essence of family values while resonating with younger audiences across the Caribbean. Sunshine Snacks praised the mother-son duo for embodying “vibrant creativity and cultural expressions,” signalling their commitment to both family and Caribbean heritage.
Meanwhile, Beenie Man has been channelling his influence back into the community. Through his foundation, the dancehall icon recently returned to his alma mater, Pembroke Hall High School, where he issued book and school fee vouchers to 70 students. During the visit, Beenie Man reminisced about his days as a student and how the school played a pivotal role in his development as an artist. “This is where all the magic happened,” he said, noting that Pembroke Hall is where he first began honing his musical talents. His philanthropic efforts also extend to other schools, reflecting his dedication to uplifting Jamaica’s youth.
