Acclaimed Jamaican songstress Tanya Stephens has announced the July 19 release of “Gangsta Blues Live: 20th Anniversary,” a collaborative effort between Tuff Gong International and Tad’s Record Inc. This special collection commemorates the 20th anniversary of her landmark album, “Gangsta Blues,” featuring a live performance recorded at SiriusXM studio in Miami Beach, FL. The concert, initially aired on SiriusXM Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Radio, included guest appearances from prominent Jamaican artists like Spragga Benz and Kumar Fyah, and is now mixed and mastered for fans to enjoy.
Stephens expressed immense pride in the lasting impact of her album, highlighting the emotional journey from its inception as a creative diary to its resonance with fans worldwide. “I’m feeling very proud that this child I birthed, not only survived the test of time but thrived,” said Stephens. “Performing the entire album was very emotional. What started as pages of a creative diary became songs that people could relate to so well that they incorporated them in their diaries too! It makes me happy, and I’m very grateful because nobody is obligated to like any of it.”
The exclusive performance was attended by a select group of 50 fans, who were treated to live renditions of the songs that established Stephens as one of Jamaica’s greatest storytellers. The event, hosted by DJ GQ of SiriusXM Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Radio show “Dancehall Cyaan Done,” was also graced by Cedella Marley, CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies. In her opening remarks, Stephens thanked Tuff Gong Radio and SiriusXM for their support before launching into the performance celebrating her storied career.
Fans can pre-save or pre-add the album on all streaming platforms, with a sneak preview of the live set available through the lead single, “It’s A Pity (Live).” The 18-track album also includes a studio recording of Tanya’s previously released “Heart Of Stone” single with Taddy P. As anticipation builds, the release of “Gangsta Blues Live: 20th Anniversary” promises to be a fitting tribute to an album that continues to inspire and connect listeners around the globe.
