Despite a recent setback stemming from an incident last Thursday at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston, Jamaica, where several pieces of jewellery worth over J$15 million (approximately US$100,000) were allegedly stolen from his luggage, dancehall star Skillibeng has received some positive news. The deejay’s collaboration on the internationally acclaimed single “Jump” by South African superstar Tyla, featuring American rapper Gunna, has been added to Spotify’s “Best Songs of The Year So Far: 2024” list. The premium playlist, which features 40 standout tracks, added “Jump” five days ago and currently occupies the No. 31 spot.
Spotify’s “Best Songs of the Year So Far” playlist highlights tracks that have achieved significant popularity and acclaim in the first half of the year. The selection criteria often include streaming data, user engagement, and critical reception.
Since its release earlier this year, “Jump” has achieved notable chart success. It topped the UK Afrobeats chart, ranked No. 3 on the US Afrobeats Songs chart, and performed well in other international markets, reaching No. 18 in South Africa and No. 22 on the New Zealand Hot Singles chart. Additionally, it secured the No. 8 spot on the UK Hip Hop/R&B chart. On the US Billboard charts, the song ranked No. 24 on the Rhythmic chart, No. 49 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and No. 10 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. These positions reflect its widespread popularity across various countries and genres.
Skillibeng, whose real name is Emwah Warmington, rose to fame with his 2019 hit single “Brik Pan Brik.” Known for tracks such as “Mr. Universe,” “Crocodile Teeth,” and “Torpedo,” he continues to make significant strides in the music industry.
