Dancehall artiste and Gaza camp affiliate Sikka Rymes, born Javian Chambers, has resurfaced on social media with a striking new appearance. Known for his association with Vybz Kartel’s musical outfit, the Portmore deejay now dons a short afro and a darker complexion, having ceased his years-long practice of skin bleaching. The transformation was revealed in a photo posted on his official Instagram account, depicting him in what appears to be a UK prison cell. The caption read, “Who Jah bless no man curse,” suggesting a sense of resilience despite his circumstances.
This resurfacing comes in the wake of significant personal turmoil for Sikka Rymes. In August 2023, his then-wife, Shy—a writer and property developer—announced her intention to file for divorce. Her declaration was made via her now-deactivated Instagram account, where she also disclosed Sikka Rymes’ sentencing to three and a half years in a UK prison for domestic abuse. “My soon-to-be ex-husband @sikka_rymes got sentenced to 3.5 years in prison today for domestic abuse,” she wrote, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Shy further expressed her frustration, noting, “Actions that might be overlooked in Jamaica are met with accountability in other jurisdictions.”
Shy’s announcement was a stark departure from the couple’s usual private demeanour. She detailed her struggles, mentioning her efforts to leave the marriage and revealing that she had secured an indefinite restraining order against Sikka Rymes. “I have been trying to extricate myself from this relationship for over a year,“ she stated, portraying a vivid picture of emotional and financial turmoil. She also recounted supporting Sikka Rymes’ extravagant lifestyle, adding, “I have invested time and money under false pretenses.“ Despite scepticism from some social media users regarding her motives, Shy remained steadfast in her message, using her platform to emphasize the serious issue of domestic abuse and the importance of accountability.
The resurfacing of Sikka Rymes with his new look in a prison cell photo adds another layer to this unfolding narrative. It underscores the stark contrast between his past public persona and his current reality, raising questions about redemption and change.
