Artiste manager, music producer and recently appointed A&R executive at Atlantic U.K. Demonie ‘Squidell’ Wilson continues to expand his professional repertoire and can now add author to his growing list of titles. The Jamaican-born entertainment maestro, currently residing in the United Kingdom, earlier today (Tuesday, April 30) announced his forthcoming book, ‘Essential Notes—A Glimpse into the Reality of the Music Industry,’ slated for release in May.
The 300-page publication written by Squidell over the course of four years and edited by Jesse Serwer, co-founder/director of The LargeUp Agency, provides readers with a backstage pass to experience life beyond the spotlight. Moreover, it serves as a handbook for those aspiring to pursue a music career, aiming to guide them through the perils that await in the industry. The book will officially hit select stores across Jamaica and the U.K. on May 28, 2024, and will also be available online in ebook formats.
In a January interview with Prism Marketing Consultants, Squidell hinted at various new projects, expressing his intention to leverage his extensive experience in the entertainment industry for positive contributions. At that time, the book was among the potential ventures being explored.
In his new role as A&R at Atlantic U.K., Squidell, the elder brother of dancehall superstar Popcaan, emphasized the importance of his position. He stated, “My appointment as A&R for the Caribbean is a significant step forward for the region, given my deep understanding of the talent pool, particularly in Jamaica.” He highlighted the label’s ongoing search for new talent to enrich both the Atlantic Records roster and the artists themselves, fostering cultural promotion and inspiring emerging talent.
This strategic move by Atlantic U.K. underscores the label’s commitment to engaging with the vibrant and influential Caribbean music scene, with Squidell playing a pivotal role in this initiative. As a subsidiary of the renowned American label Atlantic Records, Atlantic U.K. boasts a rich history in the music industry, nurturing some of its most celebrated superstars.
