Jamaican dancehall songstress Shenseea has ignited excitement among her core fanbase by announcing her eagerly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Never Gets Late Here.’ Set for release on May 24, 2024, the album promises to be a dynamic follow-up to her debut effort, “Alpha,” which intrigued audiences upon its release on March 11, 2022.
After months of anticipation and production delays, Shenseea unveiled the album’s cover art, tracklist, and release date on Tuesday, April 30, via her official Instagram account with the caption, “NEVER GETS LATE HERE 🐉 MAY 24.” The sophomore effort boasts fourteen tracks, including the opener, “Face Lift.” Collaborations with industry heavyweights such as Wizkid, Masicka, Coi Leray, Di Genius, and Anitta add further depth to the project. Several previously released offerings, including “Hit & Run,” “Neva Neva,” and “Die For You,” promise a mix of familiar and fresh sounds.
Despite encountering hurdles during the rollout of her debut, “Alpha” emerged as the second most commercially successful album released by a Jamaican artist in 2022. Debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, the project garnered acclaim, and according to sales tracker Luminate, “Alpha” sold 63,000 units by the end of 2022, with digital copies accounting for 3,500 of those sales.
In a previous interview, Shenseea hinted at a shift in her sound, expressing a desire for a more international appeal. However, she seems to be reconnecting with her roots on ‘Never Gets Late Here ‘. Her collaborations with artists like Wizkid on the 2022 hit ‘Slip N Slide‘ have showcased her versatility. But what’s truly exciting is the anticipation for her upcoming features with Coi Leray and Anitta, which mark thrilling first-time partnerships.
