Dancehall artiste Blak Ryno, currently riding the wave of the #RockNRyno trend that has catapulted him into the spotlight in recent days, is gearing up for the premiere of his latest single, “Star Up In The Sky.” The collaborative effort between Silver Bird Records, Get Em Franco (Bloodline Franco), and ZJ Spark’s Twelve 9 Records promises a fresh musical experience and is slated to debut on Friday, January 26th, across major digital and streaming platforms facilitated by OneRPM.
In this poignant musical offering, Ryno’s resilience and determination take centre stage as he reflects, “Mi been thru different stages/ Thru different places/ Survive offa different wages/ Life is like a book it skip different pages/ Keep the rifle near cause it efficient daily.”Â
The gritty yet heartfelt lyrics are complemented by a captivating Rock beat, expertly crafted and mixed by Chambah of Silver Bird Records. Adding a layer of depth to the composition is the electrifying guitar work of Tara Dean Williamson from the popular Jamaican all-girl band Adazeh. Renowned music producer Christopher ‘Birchill’ Birch, credited with mastering the track, contributes to the overall sonic excellence of the project.
Speaking with Prism Marketing Consultants, ZJ Sparks revealed that the song was exclusively premiered on Wednesday afternoon by DJ Puffy (see video below), and plans are afoot for a new Blak Ryno EP, stating, “Dj Puffy premiered the single today, and we are currently working on a new EP for Ryno.” This hints at an exciting musical journey ahead for fans of the deejay, showcasing his versatility and innovation in the dancehall genre.
The genesis of the #RockNRyno phenomenon can be traced back to a viral video featuring Blak Ryno, given name Romaine Anderson, addressing an issue with music producer Rvssian while casually flat-ironing his hair. This sparked a social media frenzy, leading to the birth of the viral challenge. Conceived by Fame FM’s DJ Franco, the challenge initially saw DJs remixing Blak Ryno’s classic hits over Rock and Heavy Metal instrumentals. Noteworthy participants included ZJ Sparks and DJ Puffy of Barbados, the 2016 Redbull Thr3style winner, along with contributors from as far as Japan. The result was an array of remakes on alternative, hard, soft, and punk rock beats.
