Gaza alumnus Blak Ryno recently disclosed that he is one of the credited writers on Burna Boy’s 2019 album “African Giant.” Verification by Prism Marketing Consultants confirmed his claim, affirming that he was credited on the track “Destiny” alongside Jamaican counterpart Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor. “Destiny” is a contemplative and introspective piece that sees the African star reflect on his journey and the influence of destiny in shaping one’s life.
Ryno, given name Romaine Anderson, expressed his initial surprise when contacted by Burna Boy’s team, expressing gratitude for the opportunity, which he promptly seized. His distinctive “ay ya ay ya ay ya” style is notably featured in the song at precisely one minute and ten seconds (1:10).
During The FIX interview, the “Seet Deh” deejay also shared that Burna Boy told him his 2007 hit “Diss Di Link” (produced by Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor) was the inspiration behind the 2018 hit “Ye.” The latter went on to win Song of the Year and Listener’s Choice at the 2019 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, also receiving nominations for Best Pop Single and Best Recording of the Year at The Headies 2019.
In the same conversation, Ryno conveyed that he has reconciled with ‘Di Genius,’ whom he regards as the best producer he has ever collaborated with. “Stephen a di best producer mi eva work wid, a nuff things him teach me as a youth inna music.” he acknowledged, expressing plans for future collaborations. Stephen echoed similar sentiments in a separate conversation with the platform.
Amidst social media criticism of Blak Ryno’s hairstyle choices, the artist remains focused on his music, diligently working in the recording studio. Ryno has announced ambitious plans for the new year, including the release of multiple new songs. In an interview with Prism Marketing Consultants, he hinted at the commencement of work on a new album, but refrained from providing a specific release timeline.
The recent social media frenzy, triggered by a video of the artist addressing an issue with music producer Rvssian while flat-ironing his hair, has led to a viral challenge known as ‘#RocknRyno.’ Conceived by Fame FM’s DJ Franco, the challenge involves DJs remixing Blak Ryno’s classic hits over Rock and Heavy Metal instrumentals. Noteworthy participants include ZJ Sparks and Barbados’s DJ Puffy, along with a multitude of others, most of whom will be featured on a mixtape compilation slated for release soon.
