Jamaican Dancehall sensation Valiant has recently inked a deal with Sony Music U.K., a prominent label under the umbrella of Sony Music Entertainment in the United Kingdom. The announcement was made through a congratulatory post on Sony Music U.K.’s website, where they acknowledged their roster of artists nominated for the MOBO awards in the U.K.
Valiant is notably nominated for the prestigious Best Caribbean Music Act category, solidifying his presence on the international stage. The MOBO awards also recognize other global talents like Doja Cat, Travis Scott, Victoria Monét, SZA, Latto, and 21 Savage in the Best International Act category. The post further highlights nominations for Best African Music Act, featuring artists such as Davido, Wizkid, Libianca, and Tyla.
Having joined the ranks of Sony Music U.K., Valiant shares this distinction with fellow Jamaican artist Koffee. On December 18, the talented Dancehall artist released his EP “A Gift From Me to You” under the licensing agreement with Sony Music U.K., showcasing his growing influence and reach.
Valiant’s rise to prominence began with a viral TikTok video in late 2022, propelling him to become one of the standout Dancehall artists of 2023. His distinctive melodic style and charismatic persona have resonated with audiences, marked by hits like “Expensive,” “Dunce Cheque,” “Speed Off,” and “North Carolina.”
Minister of Entertainment Olivia “Babsy” Grange commended Valiant, hailing from Red Hills, for his remarkable contributions to the genre. She emphasized the artist’s “awesome responsibility” and acknowledged his philanthropic endeavours, including covering the school fees of a student seeking social media assistance. Valiant’s generosity extends to impromptu acts like distributing money to children on Kingston street corners, illustrating his commitment to giving back to the community.
