In 2009, amidst the riddim juggling culture that dominated the dancehall space, accomplished music producer Rvssian of Head Concussion Records introduced the Go Go Club Riddim, setting the stage for a cascade of chart-topping hits from various artists. This influential rhythm spawned iconic tracks from several luminaries, including Demarco, Konshens and Darrio, Leftside, and the Gaza outfit comprising of Vybz Kartel, Blak Ryno, Lisa Hype and Merital, the latter with the infectious “Money Ha Ha.”
Fast-forward a decade later, the “Go Go Club Riddim” has been rehashed and rebranded as the Dutty Money Riddim, featuring a new wave of dancehall talents, namely upstarts RajahWild, Malie, The 9ine, and Najeeriii. Accomplished deejay Demarco has also hinted at a possible new release on the project. Despite the influx of fresh talent, Vybz Kartel’s “Go Go Club” retains its dominance, reclaiming popularity and earning the No.9 position on the Apple Music chart (Kingston), reaffirming its enduring appeal in the dancehall genre.
Furthermore, the resurgence of “Go Go Club” on the charts underscores its continued relevance, securing the No.33 spot on the Apple Music Top Songs chart for Jamaica. As newer tracks gain traction, Vybz Kartel’s classic anthem continues to hold its own, reflecting the enduring legacy of the rhythm compilation. Notably, the incarcerated artist’s announcement of a second instalment for “Go Go Club” has sparked anticipation, promising another chapter in the riddim’s storied history.
