Dancehall sensation Masicka unveiled his much-anticipated second album, “Generation Of Kings,” on December 1, under the auspices of Def Jam Recordings. At 29, Masicka, celebrated for his distinctive musical style, previewed the album’s strength with pre-release singles, namely “Tyrant” and “LimeLight.” Boasting an impressive 17 tracks, the album features notable collaborations, including recurring alliances with artists Popcaan and Dexta Daps on tracks like “Stars R Us” and “March On.”
The album’s production showcases Masicka’s multifaceted talents, as he is credited on ten tracks. Noteworthy contributors like Mario ‘Dunw3ll’ Dunwell, Boi-1da, Atto Wallance, Moz ‘Mozeeko’ Hamm, and Donald’ Razzy’ Chen add their creative touch. Collaborations with Dancehall songstress Spice on the lively “WOW,” along with appearances by Chronic Law and Reggae sensation Lila Iké on the impactful “Triumph,” further highlight the album’s diversity. International flair is brought in by Nigerian singer Fave and Haitian-American artist Fridayy on tracks “Fight For Us” and “Wet.”
Accompanying the album, a statement hailed it as “guaranteeing an extraordinary dancehall auditory voyage,” emphasizing Masicka’s artistic brilliance, undeniable raw talent, and exceptional lyrical prowess. Masicka himself expressed that “Generation Of Kings” is an evolution from his debut, “438,” aiming to delve deeper into the theme of achieving greatness.
Masicka’s independent release, “438,” in December 2021, was a triumph, spending seven weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and peaking at No. 2. It secured the third spot among the best-selling Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall albums in 2022, amassing over 30 million on-demand streams and selling more than 35,000 units in the U.S.
In celebration of his 30th birthday on December 4, Masicka plans a special performance at Club Amazura in Queens, NY, on December 2, commemorating both the album’s launch and his milestone birthday.
