Jamaica’s ambassador, Jordanne Lauren Levy, achieved a commendable 10th place at the recent Miss Universe grand coronation in El Salvador, marking the sole Caribbean presence in the Top 20. The 27-year-old medical doctor, who also participated in the swimsuit competition, expressed immense pride in representing her country. Levy highlighted the significance of her personal experiences and dedicated efforts, contributing to her Top 20 position. Grateful for the opportunity, she described El Salvador as a dream destination, emphasizing its natural beauty and warm hospitality reminiscent of Jamaica.
Reflecting on the overall Miss Universe event, Levy expressed gratitude for the experience in El Salvador, deeming it a childhood dream fulfilled. She appreciated the chance to be on stage, surrounded by dazzling lights, and embraced the warmth of the people. Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacois emerged as the 2023 Miss Universe winner, with Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild and Australia’s Morayah Wilson securing second and third places, respectively.
The 72nd Miss Universe pageant unfolded at the Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador, with a captivating performance by Grammy-award-winning American R&B singer John Legend. Notably, Jamaica’s history at Miss Universe includes eight occasions of making it to the Top 10, with the highest achievement being in 2010 when Yendi Phillips secured the second position, following Mexico’s Ximena Navarrete.
