Bugle on New Generation Dancehall Artistes: “Let’s nurture instead of neglect them”

Prolific singer and songwriter Bugle has contributed his perspective to the ongoing discourse regarding the emerging generation of dancehall talents and their potential for sustained careers.

According to the reggae crooner, he has observed a prevailing trend where established music practitioners and enthusiasts often criticize young talents for their lyrical content and subpar performances. However, Bugle champions a more constructive approach, emphasizing the importance of nurturing and enhancing the developing artists’ skills, both in the studio and on stage.

In explaining his viewpoint, Bugle draws a poignant analogy, likening these youthful dancehall talents to college graduates. He notes that, just as graduating from college does not automatically confer expertise in one’s field, these artists require time to amass the experience necessary to achieve mastery.

“When you go to college and graduate, you don’t automatically become the best in your field. It takes time for you to develop the experience required to become an expert, which involves many trials and errors, but the thing is, you continue to learn and improve from each situation. So is the same way we have to deal with the music, just allow them time to grow, and once they respect their craft, they will get better with time.” He told Courtney Mack of Irie FM’s Entertainment Buzz.

Bugle also underscores the importance of objectivity when evaluating these talents. Notably, his eldest son, Jev, has embarked on a musical journey as a recording artist and studio engineer. For which he has had the privilege of witnessing his gradual development and proficiency.

On the performance front, Bugle recently delivered a commendable presentation at the Sharkie’s Seafood Festival over the Heroes Day Weekend. Looking ahead, he’s set to embark on a series of international engagements with his first stop in Queens, New York, as the headliner for the ‘No Obligation‘ concert alongside Serani and July Bailey on November 11 at The Compound on Linden Boulevard. Subsequently, Bugle will also grace the stage at “Thanksgiving Feva” in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 25, sharing the bill with Spragga Benz, Jah Vinci, Iba Mahr, and Nordia Mothersille.
